Voices

(Album)

An Exploration of Sonic Space and Narrative through Improvisation and Electroacoustic Composition

Voices is an immersive journey through the tangled web of human existence, juxtaposing themes of human chaos and natural order, lofty idealism and grounded reality, and minimalism and maximalism, all while exploring the depths of the human experience. Originally composed for an eight-channel surround-sound setup, this through-composed piece blurs the boundaries between various art forms, including composed and improvised music, electroacoustic sounds, spoken word poetry, audio spatialization, and visual elements.

The journey unfolds across eight distinct sections, each offering a unique perspective on the thematic tapestry woven throughout the composition. From the serene tranquility of nature's embrace to the bustling chaos of urban life, this piece traverses landscapes both external and internal, inviting listeners to contemplate the complexities of the modern world.

At its core, Voices is a testament to the power of resilience and unity in the face of adversity. The narrative voice grapples with her powerlessness to stem the tide of human chaos, but amidst the turbulence, there are whispers of optimism and resilience, with a lingering message to carve your own horizons. Against a backdrop of intertwining strings, clarinet, and piano, the narrator implores listeners to find strength in unity and solidarity, reminding them that they are not alone in shouldering the burdens of the world.

I hope this piece reminds you to never stop yearning for a brighter tomorrow.
