Soliloquy (2021)

for Solo Bassoon

This piece was originally written for Joann Hoo.

A soliloquy is a long monologue typically presented in the context of a theatrical drama to convey a character’s inner thoughts and emotions to the audience by speaking these thoughts aloud to themselves in secret.

Knowing this context, this soliloquy for the bassoon represents a character pouring out their personal emotions in solitude and reflecting on their next course of action. Time is stopped for a moment as the bassoon ponders these internal reflections to be revealed to the audience.
